Being a child is not easy. There are so many new things to learn every day - even the immune system has to "learn" how to function properly.
In the first few months of life, the infant is additionally protected by antibodies from the mother, which it absorbs through breast milk. This is why breastfeeding is so important. Little by little, the child's body then produces more and more of its own antibodies until the immune system works independently.
However, the antibodies that the fetus has already formed in the mother's body are not sufficient to fight off all pathogens from the start. In the first few months of life, the infant is therefore at high risk of infectious diseases.
With basic immunization, we build a first barrier against many diseases. This immunological memory must be refreshed and supplemented at certain intervals. This results in the following vaccination plan: Vaccination calendar
